Water Messages to Rio+20. Many organizations have used the Rio meetings as a captive audience for particular messages about sustainability. Two that touch on water ethics (without actually using the “e” word) are the Message from SIWI that “Water is the bloodstream of the green economy,” and a message from Indigenous Peoples of Africa (the Arusha Declaration) to recognize culture as the fourth pillar of sustainable development.
