When the health of people is impacted by contaminated water, is it a water problem or a health problem? Health Impact Assessment is an approach that combines empirical research and stakeholder input to determine a project’s impact on the health of a population. Developed by Human Impact Partners, it has been applied to an assessment of women’s health following huge chemical spill in Virginia early this year and to the legacy health impacts of the 1979 Church Rock, New Mexico uranium tailings spill.
